Asuka Julia Riedl was born in Hamburg, Germany, in 1988. She is a dancer, choreographer and actor based in Berlin, with German-Japanese roots.
Asuka took her first ballet class at the age of 6. Few years later she complemented her training with contemporary dance and urban dance styles. Since 2019 she is actively practicing Muay Thai (martial art from Thailand).
As a dancer, she has collaborated with renowned artists such as Constanza Macras, Mirjam Gurtner, Alexandra Pirici, Felix Ruckert, Christopher Rüping, Lisi Estarás, and Yoriko Maeno. Her work is deeply focused on intercultural and interdisciplinary exploration. Asuka has participated in projects in Morocco, Japan, Uganda, and Zimbabwe, collaborating with international artists across a range of fields, including contemporary circus, theater, and visual arts.
As a choreographer, she worked alongside
Yotam Peled to create Get A Grip (2021), a performance project featuring four professional martial artists. Last year, she premiered her first solo work, KARADA.
Since 2022, Asuka has also been focusing on her acting career. She was part of a theater production at Thalia Theater Hamburg and has appeared in both independent and major film productions.
